Third Generation

24. Samuel LEWELLEN was born about 1780. He died on 30 Dec 1842 in Delaware, Indiana. He was buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Liberty Township, Delaware, Virginia.

Samuel’s will, written 26 August 1840 and probated 8 November 1842 in Delaware County, Indiana, lists as heirs his wife Elizabeth; youngest son Felix; daughters Abigail Gough, Nancy Ryans, Mary Williams, Elizabeth Currant, Rebecca Life, and children of his sixth daughter Susannah Dragoo. The Executors were Philip Luellen (a brother), Rawley L. Luellen (a son), and John Baugh. Witnesses were William Williams, Jr. and James Orr, Sr. John Baugh was one of the earliest settlers in Liberty Township, Delaware County, arriving in 1836. James Orr, Sr. purchased land and settled in Delaware Township in that county in 1838, and his sons Joseph and Samuel purchased land in Liberty Township in 1838. Samuel Lewellen and his brother Philip settled near Joseph Orr in Liberty Township. Land records show that Samuel purchased a tract of acreage in section 36 in the northeast corner of Liberty Township, Delaware County, in 1836. Purchasing a tract in that same section in 1837 was Thomas Gough, who probably has some connection to Elizabeth, perhaps her brother or nephew. [http://beckfoot.home.att.net/]
