The Ladies of 32744 |
Several of us were sitting around discussing different projects that the American
Legion Auxiliary had been working on - the bathrooms had been “revamped,” and
Vikki and Jack had painted the building. What else was needed? A lot
but the most expensive and important was to upgrade the kitchen so the Legion
could serve their pancake breakfasts and spaghetti dinners again. Even tho’ I’m not a member of the Auxiliary, I thought I might be able to help. How about a calendar of older women? I tossed this idea around town to see what others thought. Everyone loved the idea so I got an estimate for printing. The estimated profit of $6 per calendar will be donated to the Auxiliary and earmarked for upgrading the kitchen. Your cost will be $13 if you would like to help. If your calendar(s) needs to be mailed: Please send a check made out to Pat Chadwick for $16 per calendar. The address is: P.O. Box 884, Lake Helen, FL 32744. If you can pick up the calendar(s): The cost is $13 per calendar. Stop over to the Creative Arts Cafe (behind the police station) and ask one of the waitresses or stop by the coffee house at the intersection of Lakeview and Ohio (across the street from the police station). You can also buy them at Purple Rose in Cassadaga. One day we gathered together to watch the movie “Calendar Girls” but ended up adding our own twist to it all. I have to say it was Nan Roberts who set the tone for our calendar. She insisted she would be Ms. July and her photo would be centered around Independence Day. However, when she said she wanted to wear a helmet and combat boots, things got hysterical and we all have been laughing ever since. We have really been having a blast! It started out as a small calendar but in no time at all it became an 11” X 17” calendar. The photos were just too good for anything less. Who wouldn’t want an 8 1/2” X 11” photo of our 87 yr. old June bride wearing nothing but a long veil? What about “Lady Godiva” sitting on a carousel horse? Most of the photos will bring a smile to your face or possibly make you laugh out loud. There were many women who wanted to be in the calendar - more women than months - so, around January I’ll start working on another calendar. Then the older men started requesting a calendar of senior men so I’ll be doing one for them, too. Again, the profits will go toward upgrading the kitchen at the American Legion Hall. If you would like a calendar to help with this project, send a check made out to Pat Chadwick for $13 per calendar or email me (See the "Contact" Page on this website.) Make sure I have your name, address, and phone number. If I have to mail the calendars, there will be a shipping and handling charge. I don’t want to do that so please make arrangements with me to pick them up in time for Christmas! |
