595. Oscar James CURRENT^117,403 was born on 13 Nov 1860 in Red Key, Jay, Indiana. He was educated between 1881 and 1882 in Valparaiso (Indiana) Business College. He became the leader of a male quartette singing of the evils of liquor in 1888. He was part of the Current Brothers Const Co that was formed with Oscar & his bro William as partners in 1894.⁴⁰⁴ He died on 2 Aug 1940 in Portland, Jay, Indiana.^11,221

Oscar's cousin was Capitan William P. Hobson of Pueblo, Colorado.

Oscar James CURRENT and Josephine CHODRICK were married on 13 Feb 1890 in Fortville, Hancock, Indiana.⁴⁰⁵ Josephine CHODRICK⁴⁰⁶ was born on 14 Oct 1865 in Fortville, Hancock, Indiana. In 1882 she was a teacher and teaching in the public schools.⁴⁰⁷ She died on 9 Jul 1932 in Muncie, Deleware, Indiana.

Notes scrawled on a Graybar letterhead, probably made by Helen Julien in preparation for constructing an obituary, indicate that Josephine attended the Danville Normal School and later taught school for several years. In 1888, although the only young girl in the society, she was elected as the Fortville Delaware legate to W.F.M.S. in Redkey. On this trip, she stopped at the home of Eliza Current and this is where she met Oscar Current, her future husband. She went on the become the District President of W.F.M.S. and a Charter member of the Tuesday Literary Club. She spoke and wrote for religious and cultural activities. Up until a year before her death and for sixteen years previous, she was the teacher of the Women's Bible Class.

When she was seventeen she also began teaching in the public schools, first in the county--Green Township, Hancock County, and then at the primary level in the towns' grade school. She had begun teaching Sunday school at a young age and continued this activity throughout her life. She and her mother attended meetings of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society. The two women were very close and enjoyed the company of each others friends. When Josephine was seventeen her father who had always been so healthy and energetic suddenly took ill and died in three days. This was a great sadness for her as her father had always been so loving and in dulgent. She and her mother were left home alone. Anna felt that her mother approved of her.

In an Executor's Deed, dated Sept. 31, 1898, parts of three lots are conveyed from Anna Chodrick to Josephine Current. They were in the Town of Fortville; Lots 9, 10 and 17. Josephine's husband, Oscar, was executor of the will. In a Greenfield, Indiana lawyer's letter dated April 5, 1902 written to Mr. Current, it noted that the deed had been properly recorded. It went on-"Young Mr. Stanford was in with a lawyer the other day and we went over all the matters set out in the report. After it was all explained he seemed to be satisfied. The deeds which he and your wife exchanged ought to set forth that the grant or and grantee therein are the only heirs of Anna Chodrick deceased."
