Bale CURRENT1,2,53,73 was born on 1 Jun 1821 in in Crowland Twp., Welland,
Ontario, Canada.2 He died
on 9 Jan 1890 in Ontario, Story, Iowa.2
He was buried on 11 Jan 1890 at Ontario Cemetery, Washington Twp., Story, Iowa
- aka the New Philadelphia Cemetery.2
"Affidavits of Bastardy" (source would be the Archives of Ontario,
Toronto): "Margaret YOKOM" of the Township of Crowland in the said
district of Niagara, spinster, saith that she is now in a state of pregnancy
and with child and that James Bales CURRENT of the Township of Crowland........Margaret
X YOKOM....29th day of January, 1842......" This child would appear to be
the "Jerusha Current", from the City Marriage Registrar, 1858-69 for
Lincoln & Welland Counties, Ontario, Canada: "Yokom, Francis B, 21,
of Crowland, b. Crowland, s/o William W. & Mary, married 4 Apr 1861 Jerusha
Current, 19, of Crowland, b. Crowland, d/o James & Margaret."
Around 1848 James Current and Sarah Ann Teal, (b in Bertie twp, Welland County,
Ont), had a chlid, Anna E. Current, (b. Bertie twp, Welland County, Ont, Canada.)
(information from the 1851 Ontario Census, and the 1856 &1860 Clinton County,
Iowa censuses).
Dec. 12, 1849 James Bales Current leased land for residency with the Canada Company
in Middleton Twp, Norfolk County, Ont. (Lot S1/2 4, concession 2NWR 4, deed no.#
CC B3 034 407) That would be Concession 2 North Talbot Road (NTR).
Sarah was living with her parents in 1851 census, Bertie twp, along with their
daughter, Anna E. Current (using her father's surname). Sarah listed herself
as married, but used her maiden name, Teal. James, who was living in Norfolk
county, Middleton twp, with James and Rebecca Erwin and family, listed himself
as unmarried. He called himself a Sawyer, as did A. Dell and Wilber Clark, who
were also living with the Erwins. This is what the census showed: Occuptian
Sawyer; Birth Niagara (I think, hard to read this entry); Religion Methodist;
Residence Middleton; Age 28; Single; Not a member of family.
James Bales Current purchased land in Jackson County, IA-2 on 4 Dec.1855, recorded
in Book pages 549 & 550, and another on 2 Mar 1857, recorded in Book page
550. Sharon township is on the Clinton/Jackson county line, where James Bales
Currents' older brothers moved to in the late 1830's. A person could register
the land in Maquoketa, Jackson county, because it was closer than the county
seat of Clinton County. This township, according to the "History of Clinton
County", copyright 1879, was established in 1851, and J.B. Current was one
of the early settlers.
On the 1856 Iowa census, Sharon twp, Clinton County, p. 763, J.B. Current is
listed as age 30, Sarah Ann age 28, Anna Current age 7, all born in Canada.
In 1857 James was no longer living in Middleton twp, Norfolk County, Ontario
from the name of people listed in " A Sketch of the County of Norfolk".
This helps verify we have the correct James Current in Iowa.
In the 1860 Clinton county, Iowa, Sharon twp federal census, J.B. Current shows
up again, giving his age still as 30, Sarah Ann as 29, Anna E. as 12, Joseph
as 3, Delila as 1, the last two born in Iowa, the first 3 in Canada. (Sarah Ann
had a younger sister named Delilah Teal. Probably named Delila after her.)
In the 1870 in Sharon township, Clinton county, Iowa, roll 385, microfilm pg
394A, taken on 8 July, post office Grand Mound, we find: Current, J.B. 45, farmer,
parents of foreign birth for all. b. Canada, and he is a male citizen. Current,
Sarah, 42, keeps house, b. Canada. Current, Joseph, 13, farm laborer, b. Iowa,
Current, Addie 4, at home, b. Iowa.
In the 1874 Clinton county Atlas of Sharon Twp, J.B. Current owns 160 acres
in sections 16 and 17, adjoining his brother, Elisha's land. They live near the
little town of Burgess. J.B. Current and family were gone from Iowa by the 1880
census.
In 1878 James B. Current was farming in Section 4 of Massillon, Cedar County,
Iowa. Haven't found J.B. Current and family listed in Iowa during the 1880 census.

Sarah returned to Ontario, and died there, a widow, in 1896. My source checked
the Canadian deaths back from Sarah Ann's to when they start in 1869 and there
was no sign of James' death, so possibly he died in Iowa, though his death is
not recorded there, either. James wasn't buried in the Teal family plot with
Sarah and Joseph in Canada.
James Bale CURRENT and Margaret YOKOM became partners before 1842.74 Margaret
YOKOM2,75 was born about 1815 in Canada West.2 James Bale CURRENT and Margaret YOKOM had the following

(Sally) TEAL2,76 (daughter of Zechariah TEAL and Ann (TEAL)) was born
on 12 Apr 1827 in Ridgeway, Welland, Ontario, Canada.2 She died from a tumor on 8 Nov 1896 in Bertie Twp.,
Welland, Ontario, Canada.2
She was buried at Zion United Cemetery, Garrison Rd., Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada.2,77
