Mary ADKINS146 was born on 5 Sep 1735 in Henrico, Virginia. She died about 1820 in Cabell, (West) Virginia.

Mary Adkins lived as the common-law wife of James Harley, a British tax collector and son of the 3rd Earl of Oxford, England, a Royalist.

Mary's brother did not like Jacob and fought with him. When the Revolutionary War broke out, James Harley returned to England, deserting Mary and their children. When he died, he left some money for Mary and the children, but they would have had to go to England and present their claim for it, so they never received anything. Mary raised her family alone and they all turned out to be good people. The children took their mother's name of Adkins. Mary is the mother of almost all of the Adkins descendants of southwestern West Virginia. Mary is buried in an unmarked grave on Beech Fork at the mouth of Bowen's Creek, Virginia.
