We have met with Parks & Rec. & with the City concerning the Grant to move the arena/multi purpose park to it’s new location across the street. There are survey’s out all over town. PLEASE take a few moments to fill out this one too, it is just as important as the Tennis Courts, and Skating area for all of our neighbors, it’s gives us all another nice park to use! Did you know that the Club has been in Lake Helen for 33 years??!!! And that this area was where Cracker Day first took place in Volusia? That’s right, Ohio was a dirt road leading into an Orange Grove back then, and that was where they held the flat track races. The Club has been a big part of Lake Helen history. More than one person has told me , that the horses, and the arena were why they chose to move here. Small town where you could ride your horse, or see someone else enjoying theirs. A place you can go and watch for free, with a park for their kids to play in where they could see them. The West Volusia Saddle Club pledges to support family values, good sportsmanship, a sense of community, pride, friendship, and kind treatment to animals. To help each other , and support America!! We are VERY Proud to call Lake Helen our home, and hope that you feel Proud of us!!! Our meetings are held the second Thursday of every month(except Dec), and our Barrel shows are the first Saturday of the month, and our Pleasure show are once again the second Sunday of the month, check newsletters, or the board located at the arena for dates and times. Our meetings are open to the public, we invite you to attend, meeting time 7:30pm at the American Legion Hall. I would like to ask everyone to include my friend, and member Eve Hunt in their prayers as she undergoes Cancer Surgery, and wish her a Speedy recovery!! We are set for all of our Sept shows. We held our August meeting at the Legion Hall, Thank You Mr.. C. for the key, it works great, and them some sharp looking tables and new front door!! I would like to thank the American Legion for their continuing support of our club!! We discussed arena improvements at our meeting, and I spoke with Mr. Findell at City Hall, he was happy to help with advice. We, as most you know ,have a drainage problem during periods of heavy rain, and this is not only dangerous to our riders, but it makes the arena look bad!! We would like to remedy this. We also discussed a Roping Practice Night at the arena. On Thursday nights from 7:30Pm - 9:30Pm a small group of riders, and roping steers would be out in the arena learning the skills of steer roping. I think our neighbors might enjoy watching us attempting to learn the native cracker skills. Spectators are free, and always welcome, but please keep loud laughter at a to a small roar!!! Of course there will be no roping on our meeting nights! This is of course subject to approval of our City, please wish us Luck , and let them know if you support this endeavor!! The Fall season is upon us, but the temperature shows no signs of cooling off!! Sooo... please remember that the insect problems is bad and to treat your horses with care! A fresh water supply, regular deworming & shot program will help with the diseases Encephalitis, and now the West Nile Virus (WNV) which is carried by the mosquito, so Please protect your livestock!! LeFils Feeds in Lake Helen has information sheets available on the Hoof and Mouth & West Nile Virus, stop by , buy your feed and supplies, and make sure you know what’s going on with these diseases!! In closing, if I can answer any questions, or you would like more info. please feel free to call or e-mail me at 228-0094, kcrawford7@hotmail.com Thank You for Your continuing support! MAY THE HORSE BE WITH YOU! |
