Once in a Lifetime
By Betty O'Laughlin
Where but in America could two young boys ages 5 and 8 shake hands with the President of the United States? My grandsons got that opportunity on August l6, 2010 in Milwaukee. President Obama made a stop in Milwaukee and a relative with security was allowed to invite a few guests to the airport. An opportunity that couldn’t be missed, my daughter and her family were on the tarmac as Air Force One landed. President Obama walked to the metal barricades where several people waited to shake his hand. As he shook Eddie and Brett’s hands he noticed their White Sox caps. The boys are Fourth Generation White Sox fans. He looked at the boys and said “Go White Sox” and gave them a thumbs up. To say that Brett, 5 years old, was thrilled would be an understatement. They may be young but I truly believe they understand what happened that day. They were given the opportunity to shake the hand of the President of the United States.
