A Tribute to Lake Helen

While the rest of the state is fast becoming imitation gold, Lake Helen still remains the “Gem of Florida” -

Where hawks nest in your backyard and owls hoot in the dark of night -

Where you wake up in the morning to the sweet sing song chirping of the birds or an occasional croak of a gator or a cock-a-doodle-doo-

Where the lakes glitter like rare and precious diamonds and acres of lush green vegetation shimmer like perfectly cut emeralds in the sun-

Where cultures and beliefs are diverse, points of view different, while the goals remain the same...
I have a dream that one day this diversity will be celebrated with a citywide day of community worship-

Where the City leaders are down to earth and not beyond approach -

Where modern, contemporary architecture blends harmoniously with the Victorian -

Where mankind and nature can still co-exist side by side in perfect hormony -

Where lifestyles are simple while our minds are complex -

Where we long to retire after a full day of labor -

Where each and everyone of us are truly God’s children in his Garden of Eden.

Borrowing the words from the theme song of Cheers,
Lake Helen is where everyone knows your name and they are always glad you came.

May God direct and guide the minds and hands of our City leaders as they chart the future of Lake Helen,
truly the “Gem of Florida” and God’s “Garden of Eden.”
