Protect Our Children Please Don’t Speed |
School is back in session and our children are out at bus stops and traveling to
and from Volusia Pine Elementary School during the early morning hours and during
the afternoon. Because of budgetary reason, Volusia County is no longer providing
school crossing guards to assist our children. Our officers are unable to
be at the elementary school every day. We must also patrol other areas where children
are traveling to and from bus stops and areas further from the elementary
school where children are walking. Ironically many of the drivers we find violating
the speed limits in and around the elementary school and in the areas of
our school bus stops are parents themselves. We regularly see parents zipping
in and out of the elementary school and in and out of Blake Park as they travel
to and from the Boys & Girls Club. I am sure some of these same speeding parents
would be the first to raise the devil from the pits of hell if their child
was hit by a speeding motorist. I will be ordering our police officers to have little, if any, tolerance for ANYONE that is found violating the speed limits during the morning and afternoon when children are traveling to and from the elementary school and their bus stops. We all must work together in order to help insure our children are safe. |
